offline-first · local-only
Share audio locally
Pandemic is a local-first audio sharing app: people in the same physical place can discover each other, browse shared tracks, and transfer files directly device-to-device — with no internet, no cloud, and no central server. Think of it as a "digital exchange table" for parties, venues, workshops, festivals, or emergency/off-grid scenarios.
How It Works
Discovery
Nearby rooms are discovered via Bluetooth (BLE). No pairing needed — just be close.
Transfer
Files stream over local Wi-Fi / hotspot when possible (fast), with fallback modes for constrained setups.
No Internet Required
Everything happens on the local network — perfect for venues, workshops, festivals, and off-grid use.
Install (Android APK)
- Download the APK from: Google Drive
- On Android: enable "Install unknown apps" (or "Unknown sources") for your browser / file manager.
- Open the downloaded APK and confirm installation.
- Launch Pandemic, grant Bluetooth + Location permissions (required for nearby discovery).
Venue Host
What is a Venue Host?
A Venue Host is a small desktop/laptop executable that creates a "room" on your local Wi-Fi network. Phones join it on the same LAN to see who's connected and what files are shared. The host acts as an index + coordinator — the goal is to keep everything local.
http://localhost:8787 to create a room and monitor peers/files.
Keep all devices on the same Wi-Fi network (internet is not needed).
Quick Session Flow
- Start the Venue Host executable on a laptop/desktop connected to the venue Wi-Fi (or a dedicated router).
- Open
http://localhost:8787and create a room name. - On phones: open Pandemic → find rooms → join the venue room.
- Share tracks from your Library and download what others share — everything stays on the local network.
Privacy Policy
No Data Collection
No analytics, no tracking pixels, no cookies. Nothing is sent to external servers.
Local-Only Transfers
All transfers stay on the local network. Nothing leaves your physical space.
No Account Required
No sign-up, no login, no email. Just a temporary display name each session.
Open Source
Fully open source — audit every line on GitHub.
Pandemic ("Pandemic", "we", "us", or "our") is a local-first, offline-first audio sharing application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and disclose information when you use the Pandemic mobile app, related software, and any associated website or distribution page that links to this policy (collectively, the "Service").
By using Pandemic, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. What Pandemic Does
Pandemic is designed to help people discover nearby rooms, connect to local hosts and peers, and exchange audio files over Bluetooth and/or local network connections. Depending on the mode used, the app may use Bluetooth features, local Wi-Fi or hotspot connections, QR codes, and on-device file storage to make local sharing work.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Room names you create or join
- Device or peer display names you choose to use inside the app
- Audio files you import, share, or download using the app
- File-related metadata, such as file name, title, artist, duration, format, and size, when available
- Manual connection details you may enter, such as local IP address and port
2.2 Information Collected Automatically on Your Device
- Local device identifiers generated by the app for room or peer functionality
- Network-related information needed to connect locally, such as local IP address, port, and local transport availability
- Bluetooth and nearby-device status needed for discovery and connection
- App settings and local state stored on your device
2.3 Information We Do Not Intend to Collect
Pandemic is not designed as a cloud platform or account-based social network. We do not require you to create a user account to use the core app experience.
3. How We Use Information
We use information processed by the app to:
- Enable nearby room discovery and local peer connections
- Facilitate local audio sharing and file transfer
- Display shared file metadata inside rooms
- Store your library, downloads, settings, and local app state on your device
- Support QR-based room joining and manual local-network connection flows
- Maintain app functionality, security, and troubleshooting
4. Bluetooth, Local Network, and Nearby Permissions
Pandemic may request access to Bluetooth, local network, nearby devices, Wi-Fi/network state, media/audio files, camera, and related permissions depending on your device and operating system.
- Bluetooth / Nearby Devices: used to discover nearby rooms or devices and support local connection flows.
- Local Network: used to connect to nearby hosts or peers on the same local network and transfer audio files.
- Media / Files: used to import audio from your device and save downloaded audio into your local library.
- Camera: may be used to scan QR codes for room joining.
- Location-related permissions: on some Android versions, location permissions are required by the operating system for Bluetooth or nearby discovery features.
You can deny some permissions, but certain parts of the Service may then stop working or become limited.
5. On-Device Storage
Pandemic stores certain information locally on your device. This may include imported audio files, downloaded audio files, file metadata, room state, app settings, and similar operational data needed for the app to function.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise in a particular feature, this information is stored locally on your device rather than uploaded by us to a central cloud service.
6. Sharing of Information
Pandemic is built to help you share audio and related metadata with other people nearby, based on the room, host, or peer connections you choose to use.
When you share content through the app, the following may become available to nearby participants in that room or connection:
- Your chosen device or peer display name
- Shared file metadata
- The audio files you decide to make available
- Technical information necessary for local transfer, such as local host or peer addressing information
We do not sell your personal information.
7. Third-Party Content and User Responsibility
Pandemic may be used to access, display, transfer, or share content provided by users. You are solely responsible for the audio and other materials you choose to import, share, transmit, or download using the app.
You represent that you have the necessary rights, permissions, or legal basis to share any content you make available through the Service.
8. Data Retention
Because Pandemic stores much of its operational data locally on your device, retention is generally controlled by you. For example, imported or downloaded files may remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the app.
Some session-based information may be temporary and may be removed automatically when a room closes, a peer disconnects, or the app state is reset.
9. Security
We take reasonable steps to design the Service around local, direct exchange rather than unnecessary centralization. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
You are responsible for the security of your device, your local network environment, and any content you choose to share.
10. Children's Privacy
Pandemic is not directed to children under the age of 13, or under the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in a manner requiring parental consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information in violation of applicable law, please contact us.
11. International Users
If you use Pandemic from outside the country where the app developer is based, you understand that information processed by the Service may be handled on your device and, if any linked website or support channel is used, in the jurisdictions where those services operate.
12. Your Choices
- You can control permissions through your device settings.
- You can delete imported or downloaded audio files from your device.
- You can stop sharing content by leaving rooms, turning off sharing, or uninstalling the app.
- You can choose not to use features that require Bluetooth, local network access, camera access, or media/file access.
13. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the Service after an updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means you accept the updated policy, to the extent permitted by law.
14. Contact
